a December beach

December beach

Illinois Beach State Park. December 14, 2014. 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

There’s still sand between my toes,

glistening under mistletoes.

And that’s what climate change does.

It isn’t a slap in the face,

but a mock embrace.

It’s beach day in December

and sweaters in July.

My, oh my.

I want to hate it

or hang for it

or at least be miserable.

So we have Santa tweets

on a December beach,

and no one gives a damn.
